Botox is the name of a medicine containing the active substance Botolinum toxin type A.
This substance is a biological product of the Clostridium botulinum bacteria, which is being successfully used in medical treatments since the 1980s, and more often in recent years as therapy against wrinkles and excessive sweating.
Botox is being injected directly into the muscle which causes wrinkles by its extreme contractions.
Botox blocks the production of the messenger substance telling the muscle to contract.
The treated parts of the face relax and existing wrinkles are being straightened out for a period of about 3 to 5 months.
The formation of new wrinkles is being stopped.
Botox may also be used to block the sweating glands, thus reducing the production of sweat.
The effect lasts for 5 to 7 months and the treatment may be well applied on palms and armpits.
- It is gentle and secure
- Natural looks are being preserved
- Long lasting effect
- It is the most effective means against wrinkles
Botox is best used against mimic wrinkles on forehead, between the eyes, at the corner of the eye, around the nose, chin and neck.
It is less efficient with nose and lip wrinkles. In such cases a combination with biologically resorbable material (hyaluron acid) is recommended.
Botox is also being successfully used in migraine therapy and reestablishing face symmetry after facial paralysis or accidents.
Full effect is being attained 5 to 10 days after the injection.
The botox treatment is one of the most secure and efficient in straightening out wrinkles.
There are no side effects, except for those caused by wrong application.
After 20 years of clinical experience there are no known long term side effects of Botolinum toxin.
Botox treatments should be avoided during pregnancy and breast feeding.
